DEPARTMENT OF STATISTICS


The Department of Statistics was set up in 2012. The department of statistics, at present offers three year UG course with statistics as the combination i.e., B.Sc (M.S.Cs). Our committed and dedicated faculty members, specializing in different branches of the subject, ensure that our students receive the best possible instruction in the subject. This means imparting sound knowledge of mathematical concepts by using a variety of pedagogical practices such as seminars, conferences along with conventional classroom teaching methodology. we aim to inculcate academic rigour, critical reasoning as well as independent thinking in our students.

OBJECTIVES:

• Have a good working knowledge of the most commonly used statistical methods including.
• Statistical modelling and the omnipresent role of variability.
• Efficient design of studies and construction of effective sampling plans.
• Exploratory data analysis.
• Formal inference process.
• To improve and strengthen statistical services and delivery system.
• To be highly responsive to customer needs in a dynamic and challenging environment.
• To have strong research and analytical capabilities.
• To ensure maximum use of superior technology and statistical methodology.
• To inculcate culture of innovation in producing and devilry statistical products and services.
• To have competent work force with high level professionalism.

Programmes of Study:

The Department of Statistics offers the following Programmes in CBCS mode since 2015-2016 academic year.

U.G. programme:

• B.Sc (Mathematics-Statistics-Computer Science).

ACTIVITIES:

Seminars, group discussions, quizzes and extension work etc., are some of the cardinal co-curricular activities of the department for the benefit of both the students and the staff members as well. Extension and guest lectures are some of the important activities of the faculty for achieving quality education. The Department provides undergraduate students with a strong interdisciplinary foundation that draws on the strengths, fundamentals, theory and applications of Statistics.

The strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, challenges and future plans of the department are:

Strengths:

• Sufficient infrastructural facilities
• Qualified, competent and decided staff.

Weakness:

• Many students are from rural areas and their academic background is not up to the levels .

Opportunities:

• Statistics has wide range of applications thus increasing the avenues for employment

Challenges:

• Heavy competition as more number of colleges are established in the district.
• Lack of language proficiency among the students.

Future Plans:

• To recruit faculty with Ph.D qualification.
• To undertake research projects.
